Some Luton Town fans are having sympathies for the club’s boss Graeme Jones, despite the side’s recent 3-0 loss to Stoke City in the Championship recently.

Stoke’s win meant that Luton stayed at 21st in the Championship, days after their dramatic 2-1 win over Wigan. Despite the loss, Stoke are still below the Hatters in the table with as less as just 17 points on board. Wigan are also a spot below them with 17 points (BBC).

Wigan did hold West Brom to a 1-1 draw, failing to move up the table. But Luton’s form has seen questions being asked about Graeme Jones. But some fans are also sympathetic about the 49-year-old. They have made it clear on social media.

The Hatters earned promotion to the Premier League this past summer with Nathan Jones being the club’s manager till February 2019. Mick Harford was in charge till the end of the season, taking the club to the Championship.

Jones though, was appointed at the start of the season. The club has scored as many as 27 goals in the Championship this season. That is as many goals as promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest and Milwall. They have also conceded a total of 44 goals so far – the worst in the league and two more than second-worst defensive side Barnsley.

Jones’ men have won two of their last five Championship games, also winning two in their last nine games. The best spell of their season came back in August when they beat Barnsley and Huddersfield in two games in a row. Their recent 7-0 loss to Brentford was a damaging one, having a bad impact on their goal difference.

What do we think?

It would be fair to say that everyone expected Luton to struggle near the bottom of the table. Jones can only do as much. It is time for fans to stop being reactionary and, perhaps, only hope for survival. There is only a little chance that they do more than they currently are with the group of players they have available.
