Liverpool fans have been fuming on Twitter over Ahmed Elmohamady’s goal celebration for Villa on Tuesday.
This comes after Liverpool fan Twitter account @SamuelLFC shared a post on their page calling out the Egyptian’s “embarrassing” celebration for Villa’s second goal in their 5-0 win over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.
This then led to many Liverpool fans replying sharing the same sentiments on the full-backs celebration.
Was Elmohamady right to celebrate the way he did?
Yes
No
Here’s a sample of Liverpool fans slating Elmohamady:
I have no problem with him celebrating goals but for him to act like like this against a side with a combined 16 career appearances is poor.

Probably highlight of his career.

He doesn’t score often then does he? And he didn’t even score….

The 32-year-old full-back put in a cross into the Liverpool box that was deflected by defender Morgan Boyes past goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to put the home side two goals to the good. After this goal went in and eventually awarded as an own goal, Elmohamady raised his arms in front of the Villa fans as if he scored a fantastic goal himself. This then led to many Liverpool fans slamming the Villa man for his actions.

What do we think?
While Elmohamady certainly has the right to celebrate a goal however he sees fit, his celebration last night did come across as a bit arrogant and unnecessary. Not just because Villa were playing a team of predominantly teenagers, but also because he celebrated the goal as if he’d just pulled off a 30 yard overhead kick instead of a deflected cross.
