Was Van Den Berg to blame for Liverpool's defeat?
Yes
No
Here’s a sample of Liverpool fans slamming Van den Berg for his display at Villa Park:
After seeing him in pre-season and the League Cup games, I suspect Sepp van den Berg might have a big task ever getting near the Liverpool 1st team on a regular basis.

Sepp van den berg don’t look good. Not bashing his future or talent but not started great. Only 17. Hoever and Elliot Stand outs obviously

Van den berg is genuinely terrible man even on senior and u23 level. Think its best we loan him out, heard Sidemen FC are short on defensive options

Van den berg and the keeper both shouldn’t be in a Liverpool shirt.. I know they’re kids but Harvey Elliot is our best player and also the youngest!

Van Den Berg has to be one of the most shocking signings we’ve ever made. Been horrendous for the U-23’s, horrendous in the cup games too.

What do we think?
It seems quite harsh to judge the teenager on his poor performance on his first appearance playing against a Premier League side. But with so many Liverpool fans slating his performance, that goes to show just how high the bar is set in terms of quality for the young players at Liverpool. Van den Berg has many years ahead of him in his career and plenty of time to learn and improve. This defeat to Villa will be a great learning curve for the player.
