Liverpool fans have been slating Monterrey manager Antonio Mohamed on Twitter after his latest comments.
This comes after Liverpool journalist James Pearce shared a post on his official Twitter page relaying Mohamed’s comments after his team lost 2-1 to Jurgen Klopp’s side in the quarter-final of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Mohamed claimed there should have been a red card for Joe Gomez that was not given by the referee. The Monterrey manager also claimed that Gomez was not sent off because the Liverpool shirt “has more weight” in it.
He stated:
“There was a red card (for Gomez) so I talked to the referee. Maybe the Liverpool FC shirt has more weight so their player wasn’t sent off.”
Should Joe Gomez have been sent off in Wednesday's match?
Yes
No
This post then gathered many replies from Liverpool fans who were quick to share their feeling on the comments.
Here’s a sample of Liverpool fans reacting to Pearce’s post:
Clearly needs some new glasses.

Did he say anything about diving and time wasting?

Gomez was given a yellow card for illegally stopping a Monterrey counter-attack during the match. After the game, Monterrey boss Mohamed thought the referee should have brandished Gomez with a red card instead of yellow. His comments about the Liverpool shirt having more weight eludes to Liverpool getting decisions in their favour because they are a big club, which seems a bit far fetched.
These comments didn’t go down well with some Liverpool fans who were quick to point out Monterrey’s performance in the match.
Monterrey were like Chelsea under Mourinho. Constantly on the floor crying about everything. Joke

The fact that he’s fuming makes that win so much more satisfying. Monterrey were really unlikable

Yet Monterrey committed several yellow card offences that went unpunished and had a fair few offsides not given that (thankfully) amounted to no goals.

man lines up his side to injure and dive all game and then mouths off about the officiating which was staggeringly biased in favor of the central american side. absolutely mental. i guess irrelevant people are irrelevant for a reason.

What do we think?
Whether Mohamed thought Gomez should have had a red card or not, his insinuation of Liverpool getting favourable decisions from the referee because they are a big club are ridiculous.
