Some Celtic fans are desperate to see 22-year-old midfielder Kundai Benyu to get some game-time for the club as soon as possible this season.

Midfielder Benyu was out on loan at Swedish club Helsingborg – the club he joined earlier this year on a temporary deal to get some game time. He has never been a first-team player for the Hoops so far and is still rising up the pecking order.

Celtic fans: Do you want to see Benyu get a chance?

Unleash him!

Unleash him!

Let him go

Let him go

The London-born midfielder turned 22 on Thursday and Celtic posted a message for the on-loan star. Some Hoops fans made it clear that they want to see him play for the first-team soon.

Benyu had joined Helsingborg in February 2019 and did well for the club till the end of their league season. He featured ten times in the Allsvenskan, scoring once and racking up one assist as well.

He is yet to make an appearance for the first-team this season, whilst he did not feature for the Hoops last season either. But Benyu did spend a loan deal at League One side Oldham Athletic in the 2017-18 campaign.

For the Latics that season, the midfielder had played five times in all competitions for the club. That very campaign, he had also featured just as many times for the Hoops’ first-team under former boss Brendan Rodgers.

He had joined Celtic in the summer of 2017 from Ipswich Town. For Ipswich, he hadn’t made a first-team appearance. But he did spend a loan deal at Non-League outfit Aldershot, playing 23 times for them and scoring five times, racking up three assists as well.

What do we think?

The fact that Benyu was only a regular for Helsingborg shows where his level actually is. The fact that Neil Lennon hasn’t played him yet at all shows that the club isn’t too keen on giving him chances even as the campaign wears on.

Like it was last season, he might have to earn a loan move away from the club in January.
