Some Celtic fans are desperate to see their club make a statue of goalkeeper Fraser Forster following his impressive performance in the Hoops’ League Cup final win on Sunday.

Neil Lennon’s men picked up their 19th League Cup title, as a Christopher Jullien header proved enough for the club to win the crown. Jeremie Frimpong was sent off in the second half, as Rangers’ star Alfredo Morelos missed a penalty (BBC).

It was Forster who saved that penalty and it proved pivotal for the win. Some Celtic fans are raving about the on-loan Southampton man, with some begging for a statue of the Englishman.

Celtic fans: Does Forster deserve a statue at Celtic Park?

Why do you ask!?

Got to do more!

Got to do more!

The Newcastle United youth academy product Forster joined the Hoops on a temporary loan deal from the Saints this past summer. He had fallen short of game-time at St.Mary’s and he has been important for Lennon’s side this season.

In all competitions, Forster has played 20 times in all competitions for the club. He has played all five of their games in the Europa League, playing 13 games in the Europa League too. He has kept a total of nine clean sheets, conceding just 13 goals.

This is in stark contrast to last season when Forster had played only one game in the Premier League. He had been relegated to playing four times in the Premier League 2 for the Saints’ Under-23s outfit.

He had joined Southampton from Celtic themselves in the summer of 2014 for a fee of £10million. Since then, he made 125 appearances for the Hoops in all competitions till the end of last season. He kept 45 clean sheets during this time.

What do we think?

Numbers clearly show that Forster has been immense for Celtic this season. He is back where he had played a key role in his previous spell and it is helping both parties. Based on this season, he, perhaps, doesn’t deserve a statue. But if his whole time at the club is looked at, his influence has been huge at Celtic Park.
