Some Celtic fans are ecstatic about the return to training of their club’s French striker Odsonne Edouard.

The former Paris Saint-Germain man was missing from the club’s last two games, as Lewis Morgan started up front for the Hoops and he scored one goal in the Europa League clash against Rennes too. He had taken a knock during the game against Livingston in the Premiership two weeks ago.

But photos of the striker returning to training recently and the Hoops fans are chuffed about their star’s return.

How much of a lift would having Odsonne Edouard back bring to Celtic?

Only a little, if any

Edouard joined Celtic from French giants PSG in the summer of 2018 for a club-record fee of £9m. Since then, the Frenchman has become a regular for not just the Hoops, but also for the French Under-21s side.

This season, the 21-year-old forward has found the back of the net 13 times in all competitions and has also racked up a tally of 12 assists while featuring 25 times.

Last season whereas, Edouard took his time to rise up in the pecking order. But he played 52 times in all competitions, finding the back of the net 22 times and boasted a tally of eight assists as well.

He is now the club’s first-choice striker, as Leigh Griffiths has recently returned and Morgan is yet to impress much in his attempt to climb up the pecking order at Parkhead.

What do we think?

Any team getting their first-choice striker back to fitness is huge, let alone Edouard. While the Hoops do have Morgan and Griffiths fit now, none of them are as prolific as the Frenchman, with Morgan having scored only twice in 15 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops.

With a League Cup final against Rangers coming up, Edouard has to play. They can’t afford to head into that game without their striker.
