Jose Mourinho is very keen to keep hold of Argentine defender Juan Foyth after it was reported that Italian sides AC Milan and Roma are taking an interest in the 21-year-old.

According to Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato (via Sport Witness), several sides are contemplating a move for Foyth in the January transfer window, but Mourinho does not want to see the youngster leave.

The 21-year-old has found game time extremely hard to come by since joining from Estudiantes in 2017, with just 31 appearances to his name.

Foyth has made just one start under Mourinho since his appointment in November but impressed in the 3-1 defeat against Bayern earlier this month. The 21-year-old is a regular for his national side; having made 11 appearances for Argentina, but has barely featured in the Premier League during his two and a half years at Spurs.

It is no surprise to see several European clubs keeping an eye on Foyth, especially after he revealed his desire to leave the club should his game time not improve. A loan move away has perhaps been discussed, but it seems as if Mourinho is not willing to let the 21-year-old go in January, possibly due to Spurs’ lack of options in defence.

The Argentinian international is currently valued at £13.5 million by transfermarkt and has a long-term contract running until the end of the 2022 season, which suggests that if any club does enquire about a permanent transfer, Spurs will demand a hefty fee. Perhaps with the busy festive period fast approaching, Foyth will be given his chance, and with Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld both potentially leaving at the end of the season, surely the 21-year-old will see his game time increase.
