Supporters of Newcastle United have slammed Steve Bruce following his post-match comments after the defeat to Burnley on Saturday.
Following the clash with the Clarets, Bruce blamed the referee for the outcome of the game for his “crucial” role in conceding the goal (as per Newcastle), which left fans to bemoan his excuse.
Steve Bruce spoke to NUFC TV after this afternoon’s 1-0 defeat at Turf Moor.

Imagine having 0 shots on target and blaming the ref…honestly, how about we accept that we were nowhere near good enough today? Injuries or not. We should at least be threatening the goal.

90 mins deflecting the attention onto the referee. Try changing tactics, stop playing teams with a one dimensional one up front. It’s too easy to read and contain. There’s no point scouting us, you can predict everything weeks in advance

As authoritive as a wet paper bag

Should Newcastle United have had a free kick in the build-up to Burnley's goal?Yes, it was clear as dayNo, not enough in it |
The defeat to Sean Dyche’s outfit has left the Magpies 11th in the Premier League table, seven points above the dreaded drop zone (as per BBC).
Despite also overseeing a three-game run in which the club picked up seven points prior to the defeat in the North West (per Sky Sports), some fans had seen enough of Bruce.
Just admit we weren’t good enough today and move on to a big game next week

In the running with Carroll as the North East siren – whine whine whine! If all else fails blame the ref. Even Shearer said it wasn’t a foul.

Let me remind you he just said Burnley was a difficult place to come. What the hell. They ain’t no world beaters but come on we should be putting a better shift in than that. We have sunk to a new depth. If you think that was acceptable get you coat now Bruce.

sour grapes. the tactics were off today and we created nothing. just trying to deflect it.

What do we think?
It is doubtless that football is decided by fine margins, however, it is an incredibly tight call whether or not the Magpies should have had a free-kick, even with VAR in place.
So, to blame the referee for that one particular moment for the entire defeat is a little far fetched after such a poor performance from his side for the rest of the tie.
