These Newcastle United fans reacted to Andy Carroll not being awarded his assist against Crystal Palace, with the official Fantasy Premier League page even stating there was no assist for Miguel Almiron’s goal.
If the striker, who happens to be valued at £3.6m by TransferMarkt, were to have been awarded the assist, it would have been the 30-year-old’s third of the season. However, as it stands, the Englishman is still on two. Carroll has only started three of his 11 Premier League appearances so far this season and is still yet to score a league goal.
Here’s what the Newcastle fans had to say about the assist not standing:
Andy Carroll wasn’t awarded the assist yesterday… #nufc

How is that even possible? He literally nodded it down for him

Sucks. When a headwr is directed like that even if it brushes off someone else it should stay an assist, same for when a ball is struck goal wards on target and brushes off a player it should stay the goal of who struck it. Just my humble opinion.

Not sure how tbh. Really doesn’t make sense. He assisted the goal….

He headed it off the palace defenders back I think but I don’t see how that stops it being his assist… they literally award assists to players who had a shot saved before someone else puts in the rebound

AC clearly nods it down for him

Should Andy Carroll be awarded the assist?
Yes
No
Carroll will probably be more keen to get that first goal rather than a third assist, however, it’s never nice to see a player have an accolade taken away from them.
Ridiculous. You can see him pick out Almiron with the ball in mid flight and direct his header right at him. If that’s not an assist, what is?

What Do We Think?
Newcastle are currently in solid form, winning three of their last four matches. With that in mind, we are certain that Carroll will just be happy his side got the three points against Crystal Palace and are now sitting 9th in the Premier League, which is, perhaps, a lot better than anything many of these Magpies fans could have imagined following their reaction to Steve Bruce’s appointment in the summer following Rafa Benitez’s departure.
