Leicester City are preparing to fight off Manchester United’s advances as they prepare to make their move for Ricardo Pereira. The right-backs performances this season have been brilliant to date and as a result, the Red Devils are plotting a move according to Le10 Sport.

The Portuguese defender was voted the club’s Player of the Season and the Players’ Player of the Season at the end of the 2018/19 campaign and the Foxes will no doubt want to keep hold of the 26-year-old.

Can LCFC hold onto Ricardo Pereira beyond this summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The story comes as a surprise considering Manchester United spent in excess of £50m during the summer in order to capture Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka. In the report, there is a reference to a release clause in the defender’s contract that can be activated in the summer of 2020 however there are no further details.

TIF Tactics – As efficient going forwards as he is defensively

Pereira has started every Premier League game for the Foxes so far and has contributed in the final third as well as doing his job defensively. He has scored twice versus Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United and provided an assist versus Everton proving his worth as an attacking force.

Manchester United are currently 11 points behind Leicester City in the table and so from a footballing standpoint alone, it’s difficult to understand why the £36m-rated ace (per TransferMarkt) would even think about swapping the King Power for Old Trafford but football is far more complex than that at times.

The lure of a club as big and as historic as United often turns the heads of others and therefore the Leicester faithful will be hopeful the influence of Brendan Rodgers and his staff is strong enough to keep Pereira focused on the task at hand even if financially letting him leave makes sense.
