Vincent Kompany has revealed that he is not currently thinking about managing Manchester City in the future. The Belgian star left the club at the end of last season to take up a position as a player/manager with Anderlecht and has been speaking to Sky Sports.

Kompany had earlier stated that his former club should do all they could to ensure Pep Guardiola would be at the helm for as long as possible, but refused to be drawn on whether he would consider the role in the future.

Having been asked about whether it would be his dream to take control of the Etihad Stadium outfit, the 33-year-old said: “My ambition is right now to be successful with a project [at Anderlecht] and deliver that successfully.

“After that, everything else we will see. I spend 99 per cent of my day just making sure what I do now is successful.”

TIF Tactics – Kompany is missed but as a coach, he’s yet to earn his stripes

Kompany played 360 times for the Manchester club and will go down as one of the all-time Premier League greats.  A leader both on and off-the-field the general feeling around the Etihad Stadium is that their failure to replace him has been the biggest contributor to the fact they find themselves 11 points behind Liverpool despite them having played a game less.

Being a great player doesn’t necessarily make you a good coach or manager and there are plenty of examples throughout history that prove that, therefore Kompany needs to go out and earn his stripes before he can be considered as a successor to Pep Guardiola.

Anderlecht are currently struggling in the Belgian top-flight where they find themselves in tenth place, a massive 20 points off of the leaders Club Brugge.
