These Liverpool fans believe Virgil van Dijk should be the winner of the upcoming Ballon d’Or this evening.
Liverpool originally tweeted out an article that takes a look at the previous Liverpool Ballon d’Or winners, with Michael Owen being the only Reds player to ever win the award. However, Virgil van Dijk will likely have Lionel Messi to compete with, the Argentine has scored nine goals and managed five assists in just nine La Liga games so far this season.
Indeed, with the Argentine superstar, arguably, the defender’s main competition for the award, there appears to be a number of the Anfield faithful not quite enthusiastic about his chances on Monday night.

Ballondor should go to Anfield. Even if Van Dijk doesnt win it. Messi doesnt deserve it or any other player. A LIVERPOOL PLAYER DESERVES IT.

Who will win the Ballon d'Or?
Lionel Messi
Virgil van Dijk
Van Dijk, who is valued at £90 million (as per Transfermarkt), is the main hope for Liverpool tonight, although for a centre-back to defeat Messi would be an even bigger achievement, should the Dutchman win.
Van Dijk should win it.

What Do We Think?
Considering the last time a Liverpool player won the award was 18 years ago, this would mean so much to the club, fans and Virgil van Dijk. However, even for the Dutchman to be mentioned alongside legends such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, is a huge achievement for the 28-year-old, so win or lose, he should be very proud.
