With Guy Fawkes celebrations set to take place next week, the EFL have issued a statement on the use of pyrotechnics in stadiums. The statement, in short, explains that fans caught attempting to bring pyrotechnics into stadiums and/or light them within the stadium grounds will be disciplined.
Sunderland fans responded to the news with immediate displeasure. A few fans explained that the pyrotechnics added to the party-like atmosphere of some stadiums, while others suggest that the news has ruined their week. Another begs the EFL to reconsider.

Another group of supporters joke that with the club struggling to score, there would be no need for pyrotechnics anyway. One even joked that the reason why Will Grigg hasn’t been ‘on fire’ lately.
Wouldn’t worry lads, we only use them when we score. You’re safe

What do we think?
While flares are a nice touch to the atmosphere, the decision has been made by the EFL with the best interests of the fans in mind. One thing is for sure though. They might be able to take our flares, but they definitely can’t take our voices. Sunderland fans will surely be in full spirits as they take on Southend United at the Stadium of Light.
