Some Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to share their disappointment with the potential date for their quarter-final Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool.
This comes after Villa fan Twitter account @villareport relayed information originally reported by the Daily Mail. The information being that the soonest possible date for the quarter-final showdown would be on Wednesday, January 8th due to Liverpool’s packed fixture schedule.
This potential change of date did not go down well with some Villa fans who proceeded to share their frustrations on Twitter.
Here’s a sample of some unhappy Villa fans:
I’m sorry, but that doesn’t suit us, so we will have to pull out, unless it is the original date #avfc

This will afect our assault on the FA Cup. We should pull out

It is a joke! if the game is played In January. EFL more bothered about the top clubs.

Villa progressed to the quarter-finals as a result of beating rivals Wolves 2-1 at Villa Park on Wednesday. Similarly, Liverpool made it through in an even more spectacular fashion after beating Arsenal 5-4 on penalties after a thrilling 5-5 draw after 90 minutes.
As of this moment, the quarter-final is set to take place at Villa Park on the week commencing December 16. But, Liverpool are already committed to play in the FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar that week (Daily Mail).
A potential change of date for the Carabao Cup showdown to January is causing a stir to some Villa fans who are already talking about scratching off the competition altogether.
Play the reserves, focus on the league. Situation is a joke if they push it to a time where we are already jam packed, it should be fair, and agreed, by and for both clubs not just that it benefits one at the cost to the other.

I’d rather us just pull out anyway, it’s a Mickey Mouse trophy an too much of a distraction from the league

Over a month late no way that should not be allowed

What do we think?
It does feel like this potential change of date for the Carabao Cup tie does suit Liverpool more than it does Villa. But if there is a fairer way of scheduling the quarter-final at a date that both clubs are happy with, then the EFL would surely be focusing on that.
