Harper will join the club as a part of manager Steve Bruce’s roster of assistant first-team coaches alongside Steve Agnew, Stephen Clemence and head of goalkeeping Simon Smith. The former goalkeeper spent 20 years as a Newcastle player, joining the Tyneside club in 1993 before making a free transfer to Hull City in 2013 (per Transfermarkt). T
his latest addition to Bruce’s staff certainly went down well with the Newcastle fans.

What do we think?
This appointment of Harper as a first-team assistant coach under Bruce can only be a benefit to the club and team. To have someone that knows the club inside out after 20 years of playing for them, he can provide a huge help to the current Newcastle players, with his experience possibly proving key.
It’s also good for the fans to see a former player keep a close relationship with the club too.
