Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to share their dismay with the latest referee appointment for their upcoming Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

This comes after the official Newcastle Twitter account shared a post announcing the news of Lee Mason’s appointment to take charge of the match on Monday.

This post then gathered a number of replies from Newcastle fans that were not happy with this latest referee appointment.

Here’s a sample of Newcastle fans disappointed with Mason’s appointment:

Newcastle take on Dean Smith’s side on Monday evening. Steve Bruce’s team currently sit in 13th place in the Premier League table, four places above Villa who have slipped recently after a run of three consecutive defeats (BBC Sport).

Lee Mason last took charge of a Newcastle game back in March in their 3-2 win over Everton at St. James Park (WhoScored), which wasn’t exactly an enjoyable one for the Magpies faithful as some supporters were furious with Mason’s performance, despite claiming all three points.

Indeed, some Newcastle fans are not overjoyed Mason will be refereeing their clash at Villa Park on Monday.

What do we think?

There aren’t many football fans that get excited by the news of which referee will be appointed to officiate their games, and his last performance when refereeing the Magpies appears to have stuck with fans.

Both sets of fans will be hoping for a good performance from Mason and the other match officials as well as their own teams doing well on Monday.
