Yesterday, Sunderland fans saw their team sink to yet another low. After drawing 1-1 at the Stadium of Light, the Black Cats travelled to Gillingham for an FA Cup replay match. It took 120 minutes for a result to be decided, with Sunderland eventually coming out losers in a 1-0 scoreline.

Gillingham don’t sit too far behind Sunderland in EFL League One, however, it was the first time the club exited the cup in the first round since 1924 (Chronicle Live). And while this does mean that Sunderland have one less thing to focus on as they attempt to win promotion in the league, it still hurts.

Fans reacted to the news with a mixture of emotions. Some fans pointed the finger straight at the owners. They can’t believe they sacked Jack Ross and put Phil Parkinson in charge. The supporters lay the blame on them.

Others claimed that they’re not even going to bother attending the next match, even though they have season tickets. One fan demanded that travelling supporters be refunded for the poor performance.

What do we think?

Sunderland fans will demand that changes are made soon. They can’t sustain a record like this. With just two wins in his first nine games in charge, Parkinson is not getting the results he would have expected at this point (WhoScored.com). Owner Stewart Donald will be asking himself, when is enough, enough?
