Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to call for Miguel Almiron to be either benched or taken out of the public eye to recuperate.
This comes after Newcastle news Twitter page @ChronicleNUFC shared a post on their official page asking their followers if they think Almiron should be dropped from the team.
The post also contained an article from Chronicle Live on Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher who first made the suggestion Almiron should be dropped (Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football 10:23pm, 25/09)
This post then gathered many replies from Newcastle fans who shared the same sentiments as the former Liverpool defender.
Here’s a sample of Newcastle fans pleading for Almiron to be dropped from the starting XI.
Yup, he may as well run round with a bucket on his heed!

Yea! His pace would mean he’d make an ideal impact sub and his confidence is shot..not even doing the basics and thats hardly going to improve by him starting against Man City

Yeah give Gayle a shot

The Paraguayan’s poor performance in Newcastle’s recent 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Monday was the final straw for some Magpies fans who now want Almiron to be dropped from the team.
Should Miguel Almiron be dropped from the Newcastle team?
Yes
No
I do now. He needs taken out of limelight for a bit

Personally, yes. Drop him and get him out of the public eye for a bit. He needs to get used to the premier league. But every game he plays you can tell he’s low on confidence, and he just gives critics ammo

Play him through the middle or drop him. He’s no good out wide it’s not his natural position.

What do we think?
Newcastle fans aren’t the only ones unhappy with the South American as Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher is even calling for the playmaker to be dropped.
The 25-year-old joined the Tyneside club in January this year from Atlanta United for a fee of £21.6 million. During his time at Newcastle, Almiron has made 23 appearances for the club but is yet to register a goal or assist for Steve Bruce’s side, which is far from acceptable given the large fee (per Transfermarkt).
Almiron’s lack of goals or assists for Newcastle is now becoming a problem, so it’s understandable why some Newcastle fans have been calling for the winger to be dropped from the team.
But he isn’t going to score goals or get assists sitting on the substitutes bench, so it’s a difficult one. Maybe using Almiron as an impact sub could benefit both the player and the team.
