A report from Football.london has called the appointment of Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder as the next possible head of West Ham United ‘highly unlikely.’

Wilder is currently doing an amazing job with Sheffield, with the Blades sitting 6th on the Premier League table with 18 points. His side averages 1.2 goals and 44.1% possession per game, which is arguably worse than West Ham; with the east London side averaging 50.7% possession and the same amount of goals per game.

The real difference is in the defence, with Sheffield conceding only 12 goals so far this season, whereas Manuel Pellegrini’s side has conceded 23 goals. 57% of the Hammers conceded goals have come from open play, but rather alarmingly the percentage is much higher for Wilder’s side, with the Blades conceding 75% of their goals from open play.

When comparing the last six matches the two managers have been in charge for, you can clearly see who is in the better form. The east London side haven’t won one game in the last six, picking up just one point, whereas the Blades have won two of their last six and have picked up a total of 10 points.

It’s now not difficult to see why Sam Inkersole believes Wilder taking over from Pellegrini is ‘highly unlikely‘, as what reason would the Blades manager have to join such a struggling side?

Verdict

We don’t actually feel that Chris Wilder is what West Ham need right now, it feels very much like Wilder will be a “one team wonder” and will struggle to repeat his success at another club. Perhaps someone like David Moyes would be able to get the immediate results the Hammers desperately need, otherwise, they could amazingly be looking at life in the Championship.
