Despite Jose Mourinho being at Spurs less than a week, it seems as if the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss has already made an extensive list of transfer targets; with Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo reportedly top of the list.

According to the Daily Express, Mourinho is very interested in the 20-year-old and sees him as the ideal long-term replacement for Christian Eriksen, who at this time shows no interest in extending his current deal beyond the end of the season.

Interestingly, Tottenham were interested in the attacking playmaker during Mauricio Pochettino’s time at the club, but stopped short of making any bids.

However, after the Argentine was sacked this week, it was believed their pursuit would come to an end.

But that isn’t the case, as Spurs are still keen on signing the playmaker.

The Roma youngster has impressed at times for Paulo Fonseca’s side this season; with five goals to his name, which have helped the Italian side to fourth in Serie A.

Although Mourinho may well be interested in the youngster, he seems to have no interest in leaving Roma at this moment in time, evidenced by a recent interview with Sky Sports Italia, (via Daily Express) in which he said: “I’m very happy, Roma have given me so much confidence, now I’ll repay it on the pitch. I’m proud to represent these fans, I feel very good here.”

TIF Tactics:

It is interesting to see how Mourinho’s interest in Zaniolo could impact on the potential future transfer of Giovani Lo Celso, who was brought in on loan with the view to a permanent deal in the summer. Should Christian Eriksen depart, then perhaps Mourinho will save funds originally meant for Lo Celso and instead approach Zaniolo.

However, with the midfielder seemingly happy at Roma and currently valued at £36 million, then it may be difficult for Mourinho to tempt the youngster to North London.
