Spurs fans were treated to the news this week that new manager Jose Mourinho is interested in signing Bruno Fernandes and Ruben Dias in the January transfer window.
According to the Independent (via HotspurRelated), the 56-year-old boss who was appointed as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor on Wednesday morning, is very interested in the Portuguese duo in January.
Fernandes has been a long-term target for Spurs and has started the season in electric form for Sporting Lisbon; with eight goals and six assists for the Portuguese giants.
Ruben Dias meanwhile has emerged as a new target for Spurs, with the 22-year-old centre-back having impressed for Benfica so far this campaign; averaging a 7.21 in the Liga NOS so far this season. Both could be valuable additions for Spurs, with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld’s futures all up in the air; which could result in them leaving on free transfers in the summer.
Reaction from Spurs fans to Mourinho’s reported interest in Dias and Fernandes can be seen in the tweets below.
Both fantastic players that would fill eriksen/Toby’s shoes. Get it done!

A good start, for sure. A commanding centre back on the rise and a goal scoring midfielder.

Spurs fans are clearly keen on signing Dias and Fernandes in January and will be hoping that Mourinho can bring both in to help turn their season around.
What do we think?
Both Dias and Fernandes could be perfect youthful replacements for any outgoing older members of the Spurs squad. However, with Fernandes valued at £54 million and Dias valued at £28.8 million, but it remains to be seen as to whether Daniel Levy will actually stump up the cash for the duo.
However, if Mourinho can overhaul the squad and sell the players which Pochettino failed to move on, then perhaps Spurs could bring in both of these Portuguese talents.
