Manchester City stars Rodri and David Silva are both in contention to face Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League today.

The participation of the pair was in doubt when they were both substituted during the win over Chelsea on Saturday evening but both have taken part in training and are available for selection.

The Cityzens have been crippled by injuries this season and were rocked once more with the news that star striker Sergio Aguero is going to be expected to miss the up-coming Manchester derby with a tendon issue.

TIF Tactics – Two players at the opposite ends of their City journeys

Rodri arrived in Manchester during the summer from Atletico Madrid for a reported £63m but his performances have earned him mixed reviews. David Silva, part of the furniture at the Etihad these days, is in his final season with the club but he can rest assured his legendary status is already secure.

The aforementioned Rodri is still at the very start of his City journey, developing, learning and adapting to life in the Premier League but it’s important he takes advice and learns from his compatriot – a man who’s coming to the end of his chapter in England.

In terms of the talent within the squad, Guardiola’s side have the tools to launch a full-on assault on this year’s Champions League and, with the Premier League title looking out of reach for the time being, perhaps after the festive period, we will see a shift in priorities. European glory would be the perfect way for Silva to bow out and represent the perfect start for the 23-year-old Rodri.
