The disconnect between the Charlton supporters and their controversial owner Roland Duchatelet has been well publicised in recent seasons but despite the Belgian’s best efforts to offload the club a deal is yet to materialise. According to some supporters accounts, representatives of the Australian consortium who were rumoured to be taking over last season were spotted at the Valley during the defeat to Preston North End.
With Lee Bowyer at the helm, the club’s supporters have been able to focus on football again. Despite the reports of interested on-lookers attending the weekend’s game, these fans won’t be swayed into thinking change is around the corner or that this consortium would even be good for the club.

What do we think?
It remains unclear whether the reports refer to representatives of the consortium led by Australian tycoon Andrew Muir who was linked heavily with taking over the club back in May of last year. Charlton have held their own in the Championship thus far and if this is to spark another whirlwind of takeover talk, you would hope it won’t serve as a distraction to Bowyer and his players.
Fortunately, they’ve proven their ability to work under these difficult conditions and still achieve success. For as long as Roland Duchatelet controls the club, there will always be takeover talk and so it’s business as usual for Charlton, for whom, maintaining Championship status is crucial.
