Beram Kayal started for Charlton Athletic in Sunday’s home defeat at the hands of Preston North End. The Israeli midfielder picked up a yellow card after making a frustrated challenge in the second half, but his overall performance was met with disappointment from a section of the clubs supporters.
Kayal’s performance was rated at 6.4/10 according to WhoScored.com but the fans were far from impressed by the Brighton loanee’s display.
Kayal is a waste of rations.
Not a Bowyer-type player#cafc

Thought kayal was poor, didn’t help Solly at all, we were sloppy in possession and team and crowd atmosphere was all a bit flat, very unlike us #cafc

Beram Kayal 5/10 Good first half, but not second.
Macaulay Bonne 7/10 Looked good, but he didn’t get enough chances. Not his fault though.
Subs:
Jonathan Leko 6/10 Same thing as Bonne. Just -1 point
Chuks Aneke 7/10 Came on and was one of the stronger players on the pitch

Would bring in Oztumer for Kayal, need someone to get us settled on the ball #cafc

Is Sarr off as its scary the ball at his feet… and is Kayal even playing #cafc

Kayal off Oztumer on. Need some creativity! Missing Williams massively today #cafc

Kayal looks like a player who’s had sixty odd minutes in 15 games. Really don’t know what anyone expects. If Taylor and Williams were fit, chances are he wouldn’t even make the bench. #cafc

What do we think?
Kayal has made five Championship appearances this season with three of them coming as a substitute so there is an argument the 31-year-old is still settling in at The Valley. His performance certainly dropped off in the second half and having lunged into a challenge he simply couldn’t win, he was perhaps fortunate not to be sent off on Sunday.
There is certainly more to come from the Israeli midfielder who is an established international, but whether he’s the right fit for Lee Bowyer’s side is still up for debate. If Charlton are to finish in a respectable position come the end of the season, everybody will need to play their part in this particularly demanding league.
