Celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan would be keen to see the Gunners replace Unai Emery with former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino now that he is available.

Tottenham Hotspur announced the sacking of the Argentine coach yesterday evening and have instantly replaced him with former Chelsea and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.

Pochettino spent five years with the club and led his side to last season’s UEFA Champions League final but domestic results at the start of this current campaign and during the back end of the last have cost the 47-year-old his job.

Given the timescale in which Tottenham were able to relieve Pochettino of his duties and hire Mourinho, it suggests the sacking may have taken place over the weekend and that the Portuguese coach had already been contacted.

TIF Tactics – Could Pochettino be the answer to Arsenal’s problems?

When Pochettino arrived in north London, he immediately raised the standards at Spurs. Regular qualification for Europe’s premier competition along with some impressive league campaigns saw the club’s profile raise.

Trophies eluded Pochettino during his time at Spurs and that was, perhaps, the only black mark against the former Southampton boss’ name but the level of consistency he was able to maintain, despite having his hands tied financially, was remarkable.

Arsenal have many issues of their own but despite most of the disgruntlement being directed at Head Coach Unai Emery, the reality is the club’s problems stem from the weak and passive nature of the leadership at the top.

Pochettino has proven he can maximise a low-budget and that he can achieve results whilst playing an attacking and entertaining brand of football and therefore, in theory, would be the perfect fit.

The chances of Pochettino joining Spurs’ North London rivals are slim, to say the least. It’s difficult to envisage a situation where the Arsenal hierarchy would pull the trigger on their coach mid-season in order to replace him with somebody who’s just been sacked by their most bitter of rivals – especially after publicly backing him just a matter of days ago.

Of course, Piers Morgan’s call for Pochettino to move to the Emirates may be to get under the skin of Spurs fans, but it has been apparent that he wants change.

However, one thing is for sure – he would have to be considered an upgrade on Emery at this moment in time.
