With just 10 minutes left on the clock, Rangers had won a corner against Motherwell. The game was tied 1-1 and the Gers needed a goal if they wanted to remain joint league leaders with Celtic.

Then James Tavernier’s cross smashed off the skull of Filip Helander and into the back of the Motherwell net. Not only did the goal look good, it was vital as well.

Some Rangers fans exploded with excitement as the ball crossed the line. Others took this as an opportunity to catch their breath after a stressful comeback had finally been completed.

One fan applauded the sheer force of the header, while another insisted the Swede could play a massive role in Rangers’ bid for a 55th league title.

What do we think?

Coming off the back of an impressive performance against Porto, a goal versus Motherwell will cap off a great week for Helander. Should he continue his fine form, he could prove to be a vital tool in Steven Gerrard’s utility belt.

Those displays could help the 26-year-old keep a more regular starting spot in the Gers’ side as well, with the likes of George Edmundson, Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic all vying for a place in a fiercely competitive position (TransferMarkt).
