Steven Gerrard’s Rangers lineup against Porto showed a strong attacking intent. The introduction of Ryan Jack and the inclusion of Brandon Barker and Ryan Kent as wide players was a bold change of strategy for the English manager.

The Light Blues went behind through a Luis Diaz goal but were soon back on level terms after Alfredo Morelos added to his impressive scoring tally on the stroke of half time (Daily Record). Early in the second half, the Colombian had a brilliant header saved off the line by Porto goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin.

The game finished 1-1, but it was the performance that had most Rangers fans excited on Twitter. One fan was impressed with the team’s ability to claw back a point after going behind.

Despite being happy with a point on the road, some fans even believed the performance was good enough to warrant a win. Gerrard’s tactics were brilliant and put the Portuguese side under considerable pressure.

What do we think?

While the performance may have warranted a win, fans were happy to see their team return home with a valuable point, with the Gers heading into second place in their tough Europa League group following Feyenoord’s defeat to BSC Young Boys (BBC). The team’s form should help them regain confidence heading back into Scottish Premiership action at the weekend, after dropping points to Heart of Midlothian on Sunday.
