Some Manchester United fans can’t help but laud young left-back Brandon Williams for his impressive performance against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup fourth-round game.

United picked up a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge to advance into the fifth round of the competition. Marcus Rashford smashed a free-kick some distance out in the second half to win Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men the game.

The English striker had first scored a penalty, which was nullified by a Michy Batshuayi strike in the second half.

But the performance of young Williams didn’t escape the attention of United fans. They are still lauding the club’s youth graduate for it on Twitter.

Williams made his first-team debut for United this season itself. His first appearance for the club came in the third round of the Carabao Cup in their penalty shootout win over League One side Rochdale.

In all competitions, the left-back has made five appearances. He is yet to make a start in the Premier League but came on late in United’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Old Trafford earlier this month.

He has a tally of one assist too. He won the penalty for United that led to Anthony Martial scoring the spot-kick in a 1-0 win over Partizan Belgrade.

Some fans also felt that they want to see Williams start over Luke Shaw.

Shaw, currently 24, has not played for United since their 2-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace two months ago. He is currently recovering from a muscle injury and has missed the last four Premier League games.

What do we think?

Williams is still 19 but he looked very comfortable on the ball at Stamford Bridge. It was a very composed performance; like the one he produced in Belgrade. The way in which he won the penalty showed that he isn’t just a good defender, but that he can be very good going forward too.

He should be playing in the first-team on a regular basis, at least whilst Shaw is out. Once the former Southampton man comes in, Williams will show that he is a better defender than Shaw, although Solskjaer may have a choice to make as, perhaps, the 24-year-old is better going forward.
