Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s long-range strike left many onlookers speechless last night, but some fans did manage to articulate how the felt about the Englishman’s spectacular goal.

With the Carabao Cup tie slipping away from the home side, up stepped Chamberlain, with a rocket of a finish to peg Arsenal back to a 4-3 scoreline. The goal came at a crucial time, as the Englishman helped rally his side for a late comeback when hope was beginning to ebb away.

However, it wasn’t just the importance of the goal that had many fans giddy with joy. The effort from outside the penalty box took everybody by surprise, including Arsenal stopper, Emiliano Martinez.

Unsurprisingly, lots of fans were quick to show their appreciation for the wonder goal:

The sight of a 30-yard screamer being scored at the Kop End soon had many fans comparing Chamberlain to another former Liverpool midfielder, Steven Gerrard, who was known for his long-range strikes, including his memorable goal against Olympiacos.

What we think

After his Champions League heroics a week ago against Genk, last night’s strike is putting Klopp is a tricky position selection wise. It’s certainly true that Chamberlain can do far more than just score long-range efforts, but it is a trait that could be very useful to Liverpool’s attacking arsenal. With Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson having scored just two goals between them in the Premier League this season, Chamberlain’s ability to conjure up the spectacular out of nowhere could be very helpful indeed going forward.
