Leeds United have rejected a loan offer for Samuel Saiz from an unnamed Spanish club, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football outlet claim that the Whites have turned down the offer from a La Liga side as they would much rather let the 28-year-old leave on a permanent basis.

Football Insider report that the Spanish playmaker does not feature in Marcelo Bielsa’s plans for next season after he decided to leave the club halfway through the last campaign.

Saiz failed to impress in his loan spell at Getafe in the second half of last season, only averaging 29 minutes per appearance in his 10 league outings, only scoring a single goal.

Getafe had an option to buy Saiz permanently but rejected the opportunity after the midfielder made little impact in his short stay at the club.

OPINION

This is definitely a smart decision from everyone involved at Leeds. After the abrupt choice to pack up and leave Leeds while they were near the top of the Championship and with two-and-a-half years left on a contract, the Whites will want to see the back of Samuel Saiz. Marcelo Bielsa is not a coach who will sit and mope around if one of his players decides to quit the club and has obviously given the green light to get rid of Saiz. A permanent move is definitely the right option for the Yorkshire club, who can use the money to potentially bring in another attacking option from midfield. Despite it being a disappointment that Leeds will seemingly not receive anywhere close to the £6million that was reportedly discussed with Getafe, an unhappy player off the wages at the club is a move that needs to happen. If Saiz was to go out on loan again and under perform, his value could drop even more and now is the time to get rid of the playmaker permanently and move on for good.
