Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon has found himself increasingly frustrated at his lack of playing time as he moots the potential of an exit this summer, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football news source claim that the 6’4″ (source: Transfermarkt) colossus of a shot stopper has told those close to him that he might quit the club in order to pick up more playing time, having fallen behind Scott Bain in the Hoops’ pecking order.

The 36-year-old played 32 times for the Bhoys before losing his spot to Bain in the season just gone, with a total of 236 appearances under his belt in Glasgow.

Opinion

At Gordon’s age, you can understand why he might be keen to seal an exit. With one year left on his contract at Celtic Park, he does not want to sit around and waste his time on the substitutes’ bench, watching Bain play regularly as his own career heads towards its end. Injuries have of course played their part and he must realise that he has to prove he is not only fully fit to manager Neil Lennon but a better option than Bain between the sticks if he is going to be handed any playing time. Choosing to leave a club you have played over 200 times for is no doubt a difficult decision to make but the Scotland international will know that he does not have too long left in him to play at the top flight. He might well be looking to add to his 54 Scotland caps as well and he is not going to get that by sitting around and not playing football. Whether another club choose to snap him up remains to be seen but it should not come as much of a surprise to see him with one eye on the exit door.
