Everton have agreed to pay River Plate £13.2million for midfielder Santiago Sosa after a series of talks, according to Ole.

The Argentinian newspaper claim that the Toffees have reached an agreement with River Plate for their South American midfield enforcer, but still need to sort out a work permit for him.

Ole report that the only thing missing from the deal is news of Sosa being approved for a work permit, however they point out that is something that is not easy to achieve.

It is believed that a work permit would be easier to achieve if the 20-year-old had relatives on British soil, played more matches or had a community passport.

Good move for Everton?

It’s hard to know.

As after all £13.2million is a significant sum to play for an unproven 20-year-old who only broke into River Plate’s first-team in his 2018/19 campaign.

Sosa only played four times for River Plate in the league in his latest season, but given his age, the Argentinean club clearly believe he has a lot of potential in order to test him in their senior side.

That is a good sign for the Toffees, but there’s no denying that it’s hard to tell if he could be a future success story in England’s Premier League.

Likely to happen?

There’s a very good chance Sosa is heading to Goodison Park, as there’s just one hurdle left regarding his services and that is getting a work permit based on this report.

While it does seems a small issue standing in the Toffees’ way, given that Sosa is only 20-years-old and hasn’t featured much for River Plate’s first-team, it may be difficult.

However when you consider that the Toffees believe enough in the 20-year-old to shell out such a significant amount, surely they’ll do everything they can to get him the right paperwork.

Also clearly Ole don’t think personal terms will be an issue between Sosa and Everton, as they don’t even mention them as being potentially difficult to sort.
