Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull is eager to complete a move to Celtic, according to Football Insider.

Earlier reports on Friday [BBC Sport] claimed that Celtic had had an initial bid for the 19-year-old – who scored 16 goals and assisted seven others for his side last season – turned down.

Football Insider now claim, however, that Turnbull wants to move to Parkhead and is unwilling to entertain offers that come in from other clubs.

The midfielder was awarded the Scottish Football Writers Association’s young player of the year award last season for his contributions.

OPINION

This is surely fantastic news for Celtic fans, as it confirms what they have been wanting to know all this time: that Turnbull is indeed interested in a move to Parkhead. Not just that, but if this report is true, it seems as if Turnbull has his heart set on a move to Neil Lennon’s side. However, it looks as if it is going to be tough to force through. The BBC Sport report makes it plain and simple that Motherwell are not going to part with their young star for any old amount of cash. They want top dollar, as he is already – at the age of just 19  – one of Scottish football’s most prized assets. Perhaps this will make a move easier, though. If Turnbull is intent on joining Celtic, perhaps the player can persuade his current club to come to an agreement with their Premiership rivals. Either way, Turnbull would be a fantastic addition to Lennon’s squad and it will be very interesting to see where he will be playing his football come the start of the new season.
