COMMENTARY
The Times previously reported that Manchester United had identified Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier as a possible player they could sign to be their new holding midfielder. Football Insider then added further fuel to the fire by claiming that Manchester United had even made an approach to sign the 25-year-old defensive midfielder. Normally you would feel that Spurs fans would be against the idea of selling a member of the club’s senior squad to a Premier League rival like Manchester United, however that doesn’t seem to be the case when it comes to Dier. In fact one offered to get the midfielder a taxi to drive him to Old Trafford, while another just urged the club to sell Dier now. Given the reaction of some Spurs fans, it does reflect how bad Dier was in his 2018/19 campaign. The 25-year-old used to be on of the first names on Mauricio Pochettino’s teamsheet, but in his latest campaign, he only managed 20 appearances in the Premier League. While injuries didn’t help, it’s worth noting that when Dier did play, he struggled to deliver the goods.
