West Ham are still keen on signing Salomon Rondon this summer, according to Football.London.

The Hammers had been linked with a move for the Venezuelan last month, as reported by the Northern Echo, but the trail had gone a little cold in recent days.

But according to Football.London, the Irons are still willing to meet West Brom’s £16.5 million valuation of the 6’1″ hitman [Transfermarkt].

Good move for West Ham?

Rondon was a revelation at Newcastle United last season, and it’s easy to see why the Hammers might be interested in him. He is a proven goalscorer with Premier League experience, he would fit their style of play brilliantly, and he would be relatively cheap. With Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez on their way out of the club, and with Javier Hernandez’s future far from certain, West Ham will need at least one, probably two, strikers this summer, and bringing in Rondon as one of those would be an inspired move.

Likely to happen?

If you’d asked a week ago, chances are everybody and their dog would have said no, but this latest report changes things slightly. Does it rule out Rondon going back to Newcastle, or joining Wolves perhaps? Not at all. But does it show that the Hammers are still in the fight for the South American? Absolutely. There’s nothing to suggest they will win the race, but there’s nothing to suggest they’ll lose it either.
