Adrian Durham has suggested that is “not rocket science” to predict that Christian Eriksen will leave Tottenham this summer.

The midfielder opened up about his future in London to Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet, and the signs were not good for Spurs.

He said: “I have also said that I would like to try something new.

“I hope there will be a clarification during the summer. That’s the plan.”

And Durham has suggested that the prospect of him leaving is hardly a surprising one.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “It’s not rocket science predicting that Christian Eriksen will want to leave Tottenham Hotspur, at this age, given that he’s been there for six years and is still yet to win anything.

“The desperation is there from him, he wants to go somewhere and almost be guaranteed winning stuff.”

OPINION

These are strong words from Durham, but it’s hard not to agree with him. The thing is, just because Eriksen is angling for a move away from Spurs, that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t love the club or the supporters. But the fact of the matter is that he wants to win things, and there is no guarantee that he will be able to do that at Tottenham. Yes, the club are moving in the right direction, but they are still a long way off in the league and probably won’t replicate their Champions league heroics for quite some time. That leaves an FA or League Cup, and is that enough to keep a player like Eriksen satisfied? Probably not. Him leaving the club now makes sense, as sad as it is, and provided they can get a decent fee for him, this doesn’t have to be the worst thing in the world for Spurs. If they can reinvest any potential fee wisely, this could end up being the start of an exciting new chapter, as opposed to the end of a very promising one.
