West Ham are prioritising the signing of strikers and midfielders over the course of the rest of the transfer window, according to Football.London journalist Sam Inkersole.

The Hammers have already completed the signings of goalkeepers David Martin ad Roberto already this summer, but Inkersole has suggested that Manuel Pellegrini’s attentions will focus further up the field.

Writing in a piece for Football.London, he said: “At the start of the window, the club wanted a centre back, a defensive midfielder, at least one striker, a left back and a central midfielder.

“That has now been whittled down, with a strikers and midfielders the priority.”

OPINION

This should keep West Ham fans happy, provided that the club can actually get some deals over the line. Obviously, every side needs a strong core, but nothing gets fans excited like some good quality attacking signings. With Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez leaving, and with Javier Hernandez being touted as another potential exit, signing a striker is a necessity this summer, and supporters will no doubt be chomping at the bit to to see who the Irons can bring through the door, and the will know that the right addition – a properly high level player for a decent fee – could be the missing ingredient needed to kick them on in their perpetual quest for European football. You would fancy the club to maybe make two or three more signings this summer. If they get it right, this could be a great window in east London.
