Ian Wright shared that he thought Tottenham had made progress in recent seasons and praised the way they had gone about improving as a club.

Wright was asked whether Arsenal’s problems were made worse by their neighbours becoming more noisy and he admitted that it’s hard not to praise the work Spurs have done in recent seasons.

The Gunners legend then shared it didn’t hurt him to praise Spurs and claimed that Daniel Levy as well as Joe Lewis had clearly done something right, but added the club needed to spend in the summer window.

“Yeah to be honest by producing players and buying very very well, when they did buy, not so long ago they were going on about Sissoko and he has turned into a mainstay,” said Wright on talkSPORT (Monday June 10th, 14:25).

“You look at people like Trippier what he came for, Dele Alli, and when you look at Christian Eriksen, 11.5million, what is he going to go for?

“You’re looking at the way they have built that team and they’ve gone into the stadium, to the Champions League, top-four for the last four years, it’s progress whatever you want to say about it.

“It doesn’t hurt me to say it, people talk about Levy and what’s going on with Mr Lewis ahead of him, but something is going right there, they’re doing something right.

“But now, they’re going to have to do something, spend something as the boys have a taste now.”

OPINION

Tottenham fans everywhere will love Wright’s verdict on their club as most Arsenal legends would probably avoid saying anything nice about Spurs. However the pundit clearly isn’t going to deny how impressive Spurs have been and how well they have done by not spending crazy amounts in the transfer market to achieve success. While Mauricio Pochettino’s side haven’t got a trophy to show for their efforts, a Champions League final and consistent top-four finishes in the Premier League, show they have done well. Also while Wright is correct to praise Tottenham for their recent triumphs, there’s no denying he is also right to claim that they need to spend money on signing new players. After reaching the Champions League final, Spurs clearly need to add new faces to their squad and in order to get top-quality players, it’s going to cost them money. Hopefully for Spurs sake, Levy is about to sanction a big summer spend especially if certain members of the first team are planning an exit.
