Departing Tottenham goalkeeper Michel Vorm has put on record his “special thanks” to the club’s goalkeeping coach, Toni Jiminez.

It was announced on Friday that Vorm is to leave Spurs when his contract runs out at the end of the month, almost five years since moving to North London from Swansea City.

Writing in a tweet on his personal account, the 35-year-old said that it had been a “real pleasure” to work with Jiminez and also posted a farewell message to Spurs’ fans.

“Just want to say thanks to everyone involved at Tottenham for this amazing experience. From the kit man, medical staff, management and fans to all the players, the chairman and the press officer. I’ve learnt and seen a lot,” the Dutchman said.

“I’m so proud to have been part of this club and seen it grow. There is so much more to come, the sky is the limit. Special thanks to Toni Jimenez, the goalkeeper coach, thanks for everything. [It’s] been a real pleasure to work with you.”

OPINION

Spurs fans will love these messages from Vorm. He has been a great servant to the club, even when – as happened last season due to Paulo Gazzaniga’s presence – he was pushed down to the third-choice spot between the sticks. He only made four appearances last term – two in the Champions League and two in the FA Cup – but he has clearly not been bothered at having such little game time. In fact, these messages suggest that he is thankful for the opportunities he has been given. Overall, Vorm made 47 appearances for Spurs and conceded 47 goals, which is quite an amazing statistic. He also kept 17 clean sheets in that time, which is a very healthy record. Vorm was slightly more involved in the 2017/18 and 2016/17 seasons, making 11 appearances in all competitions in both campaigns. But overall, the Dutchman has been a great servant to Spurs and he can leave North London with his head held high.
