Tottenham Hotspur have made a new and improved offer for Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, according to Football Insider

The outlet understand that the north London club have made a fresh bid to try and persuade the Spanish club to separate from the attacking midfielder.

Football Insider report that Spurs are willing to “smash their transfer record” and have upped their offer to £60million, after it was reported by The BBC last Tuesday that the club had tabled an initial offer of £53million.

Spurs current transfer record stands at £42million, which was paid to Ajax for Davinson Sanchez back in 2014.

Good move for Spurs?

Yes, a very good move.

Mauricio Pochettino needs to do whatever he can to bring Lo Celso to north London, especially considering that the club’s previous offer was unsuccessful.

Lo Celso has scored 16 goals in all competitions this season, whilst also registering six assists, and could be an extra attacking option for Pochettino going into the new Premier League season to challenge Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen.

Likely to happen?

It could happen, but it all depends on Betis.

The Argentine has an £88million release clause in his contract, meaning that Spurs may have to eventually reach this sum to acquire his services, if Betis decide to stick to his release clause despite being offered good money for the midfielder.

However, it seems unlikely that Spurs will stretch to the asking price in Lo Celso’s contract, but after the 23-year old impressed in the Europa League this season for Betis scoring five goals in seven games, it seems Spurs are open to bringing him in to help the club with their efforts next year in the Premier League and Champions League.
