Tottenham journalist Alasdair Gold has delivered an update after it was reported that Spurs were in talks for Tanguy Ndombélé.

The Guardian reported that his price tag would be £66.6million and that Mauricio Pochettino had said he is “is precisely the type of player he wants to sign this summer”.

Many other outlets picked up on the news and the Sun went one step further, claiming that Spurs had launched a club-record £60m bid.

Gold said that he was always the journalist who dismisses transfer reports but said “that may just finally be coming to an end”.

He went on to say that “Talks appear to be underway but not sure it’s as cut and dried yet as it’s being made out in some places. Sounds hopeful though and as I said, if they could get it over the line it would be one hell of a signing”.

OPINION

If Tottenham were to sign Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombélé and Ryan Sessegnon, we think that most supporters would be extremely happy. Add a back-up striker for Kane and you’ve got what would represent the perfect window for Tottenham. That they’re in the frame for players of this calibre is testament to the work that Pochettino has done and getting to the Champions League final won’t have hurt them one bit. They’ve got a world-class stadium and are in the Champions League again next season. Meanwhile, bitter rivals Arsenal have reportedly little money to spend and a squad that’s teetering. It’s a very, very good time to be a Tottenham fan and it’s only going to get better this summer. Ndombele is the player that Spurs have needed ever since Mousa Dembele left to go to China and if they land him they will be a significantly bigger force in the Premier League next season.
