The possibility of signing reported target Julian Draxler was never once discussed by Tottenham, according to journalist Alasdair Gold.

World Cup winner Draxler was linked with a move to London after it was revealed by the Daily Star that the German international was offered to Mauricio Pochettino for only £35million.

Draxler was linked as a potential replacement to Christian Eriksen who admitted in a recent interview with Ekstrabladet, that he was ready for a step up in his career.

Football.London journalist, Alasdair Gold revealed on his personal Twitter account that Draxler was never mentioned as a target, despite the constant links.

This comes after Draxler revealed in an interview with German outlet Bild, that he had no intention to leave Paris Saint Germain in the summer.

OPINION

This piece of news will most likely sit very well with all Tottenham fans. The last thing they will have wanted was for their club to be chasing a player that did not want or had no intention to join the club. Draxler is a World Cup winner and at £35million could be a steal for any club, but the most likely outcome at this current moment of time is that he will be remaining in France. There is no need to panic just yet for Spurs and Mauricio Pochettino, with Christian Eriksen still at the club despite his admission and with Real Madrid just announcing the signing of Eden Hazard, a move for the Danish international could become unlikely. If Eriksen eventually remains at the club then Pochettino will more interested in bringing in a deeper midfielder who can anchor the middle of the park to give more freedom to their attacking players, someone like the rumoured target, Tanguy Ndombele. Missing out on Draxler won’t keep Spurs up at night and they could count themselves lucky for missing out on a player who clearly doesn’t want to be there.
