Dean Saunders heaped praise on Wolves attacking duo Diogo Jota and Raul Jimenez when analysing why the club did so well in their 2018/19 campaign.
The former Aston Villa player was asked to weigh up how Dean Smith’s side would fare in the Premier League and opted to use Wolves as an example of how to act upon getting promoted.
This led to Saunders highlighting Jota and Jimenez in particular for being key to Wolves’ success in the Premier League as he claimed the forward had done brilliantly and that they looked like top class players.
“The two strikers Jota and Jimenez have done brilliantly for them, they look like top class players,” said Saunders on talkSPORT (8:09am, Tuesday June 4th).

Wolves did do fantastically well in their 2018/19 campaign and there’s no denying both Jota and Jimenez played their part. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side finished seventh in the table and no one really expected any side just coming up from the Championship to do so well. Jota featured 37 times, scoring 10 goals and racking up assists, to help the Wolves have a successful season, while Jimenez scored 17 goals and registered eight assists in 44 outings. With two players capable of being so formidable in the opposition’s half, it’s no wonder the club did well in the Premier League and went surprisingly far in the FA Cup. It is now up to both players to keep their form going in their 2019/20 campaign to allow the club to build on their recent success. This is especially the case when you consider Wolves are set to be in the Europa League; and need their top-stars at their best in order to succeed in that competition.
