Leeds United have set their sights on signing Manchester City winger Brandan Barker this summer as they launch a recruitment drive for at least two new wide men, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football news website claim that the Elland Road outfit are keen on the 22-year-old and are looking at sealing a deal for his capture, with a loan move touted as the more likely move, despite his contract at the Premier League champions coming to an end next summer.

The versatile attacker spent last season on loan at Preston North End and made 20 appearances for the Championship outfit, scoring twice and notching up another two assists.

Good move for Leeds?

His recent record is hardly anything to write home about and so Leeds must be feeling that Preston failed to bring the best out of him.

The Whites have already had one loan move from Manchester City result in a mixed bag of performances in the shape of Jack Harrison and Barker would have to do a lot better than his time in the Championship last season to be considered a success at Elland Road.

Two new wide men is an absolute must for Marcelo Bielsa and any less would leave them worryingly understaffed in that particular position as they look for promotion to the Premier League.

Barker does not scream quality talent and maybe he would be brought in as back up behind someone who brings more cutting edge to the side.

Likely to happen?

As stated, Leeds have already taken Harrison on loan from Manchester City and so that particular line of dialogue is already open.

If Leeds want him, the Premier League heavyweights are unlikely to stand in their way – he is hardly going to force his way into Pep Guardiola’s thoughts any time soon judging by his performances of late.

Whether it is a good deal or not is another question entirely.
