Newcastle United striker Joselu is on the verge of completing a move to La Liga side Alaves, according to Spanish outlet AS.

The 6’2″ striker [Transfermarkt] has failed to live up to his potential on Tyneside, and it is understood that he is on his way out of St. James’ Park.

Writing in a report detailing Alaves’ signing of Saul Garcia, AS said: “Another player who has almost completed his arrival is Joselu, of Newcastle.”

Good move for Newcastle?

110%. Joselu has been the dictionary definition of a flop on Tyneside, rarely playing and even more rarely impressing. Just seven goals in 52 appearances is a pretty shocking return, and it has reached a point where the only logical thing is to move him on. Selling him now means that Magpies will have a little extra in the kitty this summer, and a little bit more leeway in terms of their wage budget too. There really are no downsides to this, and as harsh as it may sound, there will be very few, if any, fans who miss him when it does come to him departing.

Likely to happen?

AS seem fairly certain of this one. Joselu is pretty much nailed on to leave St. James’ Park this summer, and Alaves seems just as likely a destination as anywhere. It is likely that the Spaniard would favour a move back to his home country, and Newcastle won’t care where he goes as long as he does. This one feels like only a matter of time before it is confirmed.
