COMMENTARY
The Independent reported on Monday that Manchester United had moved into pole position to sign Leicester City playmaker James Maddison and it went down a treat among many Man United fans. The newspaper claimed that Man United had jumped ahead of the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester City in order to lead the race for the 22-year-old. One Man United fan wanted Maddison signed ASAP upon reading the transfer report, while another boldly claimed the player could walk into the club’s current first-team. While the Foxes midfielder is clearly a talent worth having, he may not be worth pursuing for them. The Independent claim that Maddison would likely cost in the region of £60million, and that’s a lot to pay for a player on the back of one good season in the Premier League. Granted it was an impressive 2018/19 campaign for Maddison as he was involved in 14 goals in 38 games, but surely it’s still a bit of a risk. However if he does arrive at Old Trafford it seems he will get a big welcome party thrown by fans in his honour.
