Everton are edging closer towards signing River Plate midfielder Santiago Sosa, according to the Mirror.
The newspaper claimed via their live transfer blog on Tuesday [08:04am] that Sosa, 20, will head to Everton to agree a deal once he has finished representing Argentina at the Under-20 World Cup in Poland.
Argentina’s Under-20s finished top of their group with Sosa featuring in every match and wearing the captain’s armband in the 2-1 defeat to South Korea last week.
He and his team-mates take on Mali in the first knockout round on Tuesday night and the final is scheduled to take place on June 15.
The Mirror’s report suggests that as soon as Argentina Under-20s finish their run in the international competition, Sosa will make his way to Merseyside to wrap up an agreement with the Toffees.
Good move for Everton?
Sosa has performed well for Argentina’s Under-20s in the last few weeks and if he is heading to Everton then there is no doubt that Marcel Brands will have someone keeping close tabs on his appearances in Poland.
The central midfielder has not played a lot of senior football for his club River Plate, having only four league appearances for them this season.
However the 5ft 10 [transfermarkt] ace does appear to be someone to have quite a bit of potential and signing him could be a worthwhile move by Brands, who made a name for himself for his recruitment of youngsters back at PSV.

Likely to happen?
Everton will more than likely make a final call on Sosa once he has finished playing for Argentina at the Under-20s World Cup.
They are expected to beat Mali later on Tuesday and that will set up a quarter-final showdown with Italy after they beat hosts Poland on Sunday.
Sosa’s display in that match could prove pivotal for the Toffees, who will no doubt want as much information on their midfield target before he signs on the dotted line.
