Tottenham are plotting a new move to sign Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso after having a £62million bid rejected by the La Liga club, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claimed via their live transfer blog on Tuesday [12:01pm] that the 23-year-old’s representatives are confident they have reached an agreement with Betis that they will consider bids worth £70million for the Argentina international.

It is understood that Betis will have to pay a sell-on fee to Paris Saint-Germain should Lo Celso leave them this summer and Spurs’ latest bid was made up of add-ons worth £12million.

OPINION

Lo Celso has had a great season with Real Betis, scoring 16 goals and supplying six assists in 46 appearances across all competitions. It is clear that he is someone with a lot of talent and as he is still relatively young and is an Argentinean, he is someone that could flourish even more under the wing of Mauricio Pochettino. What is worrying is how much Tottenham might have to pay to sign up the central midfielder. Daniel Levy is one of the shrewdest negotiators in the world and there’s no way he is going to spend £70million that easily. Although it is a boost for Spurs that Lo Celso’s agents are keen on him making the move and appear to have agreed a fee with the Spanish club, the North London side still needs to meet that fee. Levy will let this drag on if he has to so fans should not expect to see Pochettino’s arm around Lo Celso until next season is closer to kicking off.
