They say you should never buy a player off the back of a major tournament. With the world watching and with adrenaline coursing, a very average player can make himself look like a world beater, and if you’re not careful, you can end up spending an arm and a leg on a piece of deadwood. Everton must have feared that they had done just that when they signed Yerry Mina last summer. The Colombian put in a monstrous display for his nation throughout the World Cup in Russia, and looked very inch the perfect Premier League defender in their run to the last 16. Ultimately, however, he floundered a little when he arrived in England, and there were more than a few Toffees’ fans muttering about how Barcelona must have let him go for a reason. That being said, there were flashes of the player that he can be, and more than enough to suggest that he could go on to become a very important player for the Blues if he is given enough time to find a way to banish the lapses in concentration that plague him. Which is why it will have been something of a surprise for fans to hear that he was being lined up for a loan move to Fenerbahce earlier this week, as reported by Mundo Deportivo. Thankfully, however, it would appear that those rumours have been put to bed by his agent who, as quoted by Turkish outlet Aspor, is adamant that the South American isn’t going anywhere. Here’s hoping he’s telling the truth.
